Target-Date Fund Suitability

Target-Date Fund Suitability has been called into question as highlighted by a recent $300 million lawsuit. This session will discuss current market events and how they could potentially impact your book of business. The Pension Protection Act of 2006 drove significant increases in TDF assets, and the financial crisis of 2008 demonstrated that not all TDFs are the same. With increasing scrutiny and litigation around these investments (the most commonly-used defaults in defined contribution plans), the Department of Labor (DOL) issued its “Tips for ERISA Plan Fiduciaries” in 2013 to assist in the selection and monitoring of TDFs. The session will include a deep dive into the Department of Labor Target Date Retirement Funds – Tips for ERISA Plan Fiduciaries. Learn about recent developments in the TDF landscape, understand what questions and answers determine suitability, and leverage the DOL tips to grow and retain business.
